Minor League Baseball: The Legend Grows

(Paul Colletti/The Dispatch/AP)

This is about a month old, but I just saw this picture and I loved it. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times: I love minor league baseball…. it just seeps badass out of its pores. This picture is the Quad Cities River Bandits (Cardinals) and the Peoria Chiefs (Cubs) during a game inside Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, Iowa. The rising flood waters of the Mississippi River surrounded the entire stadium which is protected by a flood wall. Here’s what the stadium usually looks like.

I know it’s a totally different angle, but notice how there’s..oh, I dunno… land all around the infield portion of the stadium? Not so much during the flooding. I love San Diego, but if there’s a chance of a light mist, that’ll cut attendance at Padres games in half. The only reason these guys in Iowa weren’t at the game is because their houses were all under water and they couldn’t canoe to the game fast enough.
