Mike Florio of NBC’s “ProFootballTalk” Blasts ESPN’s Jon Gruden

What up Florio. Generally speaking, I like the stuff you report and write on PFT (ProFootballTalk). It’s very informative, insightful, subjective, and really…it provides a chance for fans to feel like they are on the inner circle. It’s a nice feeling. However, you bore me to death. Not so much your writing… you. Whenever I see you on TV, you’re just too bland and boring. That was the part that shocked me about your latest article. I didn’t think you had it in you. You know the one where you pulled the pin out of a grenade and shoved it up Jon Gruden’s ass.

Here are a few excerpts from Florio’s article that was prompted by watching Gruden’s QB Camp series where he interviews former Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor.

“Jon Gruden’s over-the-top butt-smooching and self-promotion, all in the name not just of getting another job in the NFL but having maximum options and leverage when he chooses to return, has risen to the level of nauseating…

It’s gotten to the point where his fundamental lack of authenticity possibly could hurt his efforts to return to coaching significantly more than anything bad he could have ever said about any player, coach, G.M., or owner.  And the saddest part is that Gruden, a talented and capable broadcaster, could be a cross-pollination of Madden and Cosell if only Gruden would be honest with himself and his audience.  Instead, he’s dangerously close to becoming a laughingstock.

It’s safe to say that, if/when he reads this, he’ll be pissed off.  (We know this because we’ve been told that other things we’ve written about him have pissed him off.)  The reality is that I’m trying to do for the guy that which no one else at ESPN is able or willing to do.

Put simply, the man who loves to talk about how little he sleeps really needs a wake-up call.”

Damn, son. Blasted. So much for the bland, boring guy, huh Florio? I don’t disagree that Gruden is doing some serious self promotion… not only to NFL GM’s and players, but to other media outlets, and fans. Guess what though… it’s working. I’d drop Norv Turner in the blink of freakin’ eye if it meant the Chargers could pick up Gruden as their head coach. Self promote away Gruden, maybe A.J. Smith is watching. As for you Florio… still not sure what good can really come from this for you. Like I said, it’s not that I disagree with what you’re saying… it’s that you look like a jealous whiny little bitch for saying it.
