Jackie Robinson Movie, “42”, Has Been Cast

Chadwick Boseman, Jackie Robinson & Branch Rickey, Harrison Ford

USA Today – Variety is reporting that Harrison Ford has been tapped to play Branch Rickey in “42” the new movie about Jackie Robinson.

Chadwick Boseman will play Robinson in the Brian Helgeland directed picture.

Boseman, also a playwright, writer and director, has had experience playing famous athletes. A few years ago he portrayed running back Floyd Little in

“The Express” the movie about Syracuse icon Ernie Davis.

Rickey was the executive instrumental in bringing Robinson to the Brooklyn Dodgers. That move broke the color line in Major League Baseball.

Love this. 42 is a movie that needed to be made a long time ago. Glad that Harrison Ford is aboard because I think his huge name will turn this into a well-funded, historically accurate project. Love that a relative unknown is playing Jackie Robinson. Love the name Chadwick Boseman. Chadwick.

Why do I love that a dude I’ve never heard of is playing Jackie Robinson? I’ll give you two examples why.  Ali and 61*. As good as Will Smith was in Ali… I still just saw the Fresh Prince.

Also, as good as Barry Pepper was in 61* as Roger Maris… I still just saw Bill S. Preston, Esq. from Bill and Ted’s.

That’s why. That’s why I’m excited that Jackie Robinson is a dude I don’t know. What I do know is that I’m really, really excited for 42.

Ok, lobsters… did you pass the test? The kid from Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure is not Barry Pepper, the dude that played Roger Maris… it’s some other guy named Alex Winter. I did however, spend a couple of years thinking they were the same person. I was wrong. Were you?
