NBC San Diego – A man was seriously injured by a sledge-hammer toting robbery suspect early Monday, officials said.
Two men told police they were sitting in a BMW at the corner of Lincoln and Alabama in North Park around 1 a.m. when a stranger appeared at the driver’s side window. The stranger was holding a sledge hammer and demanded cash. The 44-year-old driver refused and rolled up his window.
That’s when investigators say the suspect started smashing the window with the sledge hammer, breaking it into pieces and hitting the driver in the head and face at least three times. The passenger jumped out and tried to stop the attack. The suspect took off on foot. When emergency crews arrived, they discovered the driver with serious head trauma. He was rushed to Mercy Hospital.
The passenger was also injured in the head but was treated at the scene according to police. The suspect description is limited – a man believed to be in his 30’s wearing a hoodie, Dickies pants and possibly a hat.
Just one more example of Peter Gabriel’s music inspiring violence. Terrible…
