Dick Enberg! Comin’ in Hot! “HUBBA HUBBA!”

hubba-hubba

These two lovely ladies led to an interesting little conversation between Mudcat and Enberg last night… and it’s caused a small stir, nationally. Here are the girls:

Here’s the conversation, you can catch the video at The Big Lead:

Grant: “Hey! Hot dog heads!

Enberg: “Hubba! Hubba!”

Grant: “I crushed two of those last night after the game.”

Enberg: “Oh, the hot dogs, yeah. You crushed those.”

Enberg! You dog! I actually LOL’d when Enberg dropped the “Oh, the hot dogs, yeah, you crushed those” bomb. That’s something that every single one of my buddies would’ve said because it’s funny and over the top. I loved it. Should he have said it on a national broadcast? Definitely not. Amazing that Mud was able to keep his composure and pretend Dick didn’t just suggest that he had been “crushing” young hotties the night before. Professionalism at its best by Mr. Mark Grant right there.

I think Enberg is a hall of fame announcer, he’s just too old to still be doing this for the Padres. I’ve said it a billion times… time to hang ’em up.

And for the record, this isn’t just about age… I know that. But it’s not fair to compare anybody to Vin Scully. He’s as good as ever. I get the chills listening to Vin make calls on Puig’s home runs from last night. Hard for Padres fans to hear? Sure, but you have to be able to remove the Dodgers factor and just appreciate the greatness of Vin.

Also, if this isn’t a perfect example of the juxtaposition between Vin Scully and Dick Enberg, I don’t know what is. The entire sports blogging world is talking about Enberg “hubba hubba”-ing some young girls, and all those same blogs are talking about what an amazing treat it is to listen to Vin Scully make a call on a rookie phenom. Same amount of press, complete opposite reasons. Case in point.
