Hacksaw’s Old Co-Host, JD Hayworth, Is Suing ‘The Mighty 1090’

hack-hay-walrusWell, well, well… what have we got here? You remember JG Wentworth JD Hayworth, don’t you? The infomercial scam artist that BCA radio hired to be Mahan’s morning radio partner on The Mighty 1090? LobShots readers know of my storied history with Paul Mahan. I called him a liar and a moron. He responded by calling me “SLOBSHOTS” in a twitter tirade. He then continued to respond like any adult would… right? So I responded by making a pancake.

Back to JD. The writing was on the wall for Hayworth when The Mighty 1090 brought Jay Paris on board. Shortly after bringing Paris on board… to the shock of no one… 1090 fired Hayworth. He was terrible to listen to on the radio… which, of course, begs the question… is being terrible on the radio and having little-to-no sports knowledge enough to fire somebody when you were careless enough to hire them in the first place?

Well JD Hayworth doesn’t seem to think so… he’s suing BCA radio.

From the SD Reader:

Radio personality John David Hayworth, former cohost of The Morning Show with Lee “Hacksaw” Hamilton on Mighty 1090, has filed a lawsuit against the station’s parent company, Broadcast Company of the Americas, for breach of contract and wrongful termination.

Hayworth, a onetime U.S. congressional representative from Arizona, says the Padres’ flagship station hired him on March 7 of this year, luring him to San Diego with a “guaranteed compensation package for a minimum term of two years,” according to Hayworth’s complaint filed in federal court last Friday, November 1.

Included in the compensation package were promises that Hayworth “could only be terminated ‘for Cause'” and would first be required to issue “a written statement to [Hayworth] detailing the alleged breach or violation, and [Hayworth] would thereafter have a reasonable opportunity within which to cure the alleged breach or violation.”

Due to alleged poor reviews and sub-par ratings, executives at the company gave Hayworth his pink slip on August 30.

“At no time did [Broadcast Company of the Americas] notify [Hayworth], in writing or otherwise, of any alleged violation or breach prior to terminating the agreement,” reads the lawsuit. “Nor did [the company] provide [him] a reasonable opportunity ‘to cure such breach or violation’ as is expressly required in the agreement.”

Hayworth says the radio company has a history of making hollow promises.

“As [Hayworth] later came to understand, [Broadcast Company of the Americas] had already developed a pattern of ignoring similar promises in at least one other similar written employment contract with another radio show host. Further, [the company] terminated other radio host contracts without following the contractually required procedures.”

Hayworth is asking the company to reimburse him for lost wages and other compensation.

For now, Lee “Hacksaw” Hamilton is the sole host of The Morning Show.

You can even check out a PDF of the lawsuit yourself.

So, does JD have a point? I dunno. I didn’t see his contract. Was he awful on air? Yes. Was he wrongfully terminated based on the wording in his contract? We’ll find out.

Funny thing about the SD Reader article… they clearly don’t listen to Mahan either, as he isn’t technically the sole host of the show. Now it’s “Hacksaw and Company” – I find this concept fascinating. A round robin group of San Diego sports/media guys that, for the most part, were passed over the first time around when the station decided to employ a political-robot-dinosaur instead.  As noted above, Mahan’s co-hosted with Jay Paris, as well as former Chargers Vencie Glenn and Quinn Early. (And probably a few others, I don’t listen)

Well, The Mighty 1090 and UT San Diego have worked out their little difference that prevented U-T employees from going on the 1090 airwaves. (Except for Scott Kaplan, who… you know, is employed by both of them *Kaplan corrected this via tweet saying he doesn’t work for either of them, he contracts. Semantics, but okay*). So now, Kevin Acee, or as Mahan calls him, “Ace” – is part of the “Hacksaw and Company” crew too.

This will be the most intelligent combo that 1090 offers in the morning. A comical marriage because Acee has always been critical of Mahan… and Mahan has always been critical of Acee. Hope Acee is getting a pretty penny to put up with the Hack’s schtick.

How critical has Acee been? Check out this tweet.

That’s less than two months ago. Acee just putting Hacksaw on blast. “Dumber by the second”! I loved it. Now? Co-hosts. Who’da thunk?

While I’m at it… never forget: DARIN SMITH! Yes, Darin.
