Dude Wins a $200,000 Lamborghini and Crashes It 6 Hours Later

Yahoo! – Thanks to a Utah convenience store’s contest, Frito-Lay truck driver David Dopp won another set of wheels last Saturday: this lime-green, 631-hp Lamborghini Murcielago LP-640, worth at least $200,000. Such an awesome car that will…oops, he already wrecked it.

Just a few hours after getting the keys to the V-12 powered Italian supercar named for a famed Spanish fighting bull, Dopp took to the roads around his home in Santaquin, Utah. According to In Santaquin News, police were called about dusk after a witness spotted the all-wheel-drive Lambo bass-ackwards in a field, with skidmarks from where it left the road.

Dopp — who had apparently already taken one call from the local police about takin’ it easy before going off-road — says he was going about 40 mph to 50 mph on a 35-mph road when he hit a patch of what he called black ice or gravel. The police report says the car went over a curb, off the road and 75 feet into the field, calling the accident “speed related.”

The Murcielago is now bound for Las Vegas, where mechanics will calculate a repair estimate on the busted oil pan and damaged bumper. Dopp, who has insurance, says the day was “an emotional roller coaster.” If you mess with a bull, don’t be surprised when you get the horns.

A few things: First of all, this cat had a facebook update earlier in the day… prior to crashing his new whip:  “Just had Santaquin Police called on me for driving too fast. SORRY !!!! :) .” Oh yeah? SORRY all caps, multiple exclamation points, and a smiley face? Bro, you’re asking to wreck your new lambo. Second…the hell kinda ‘convenience store’ gives away lambos? I get fired up when 7-Eleven has 3 for $2 coupons on Nutri-Grain bars….freaking Lamborghinis. Get the hell outta here. Last thing…lime green? Pass.

Oh, almost forgot… here’s “the after”:

Merry Christmas, guy.

The Famous Costco Receipt Smiley Face

I guarantee Costco doesn’t even know how this little tradition of theirs started. Anybody with a kid knows what I’m talking about… when you are leaving Costco and they check your receipt… if you have a kid, they flip it over and draw a nice little smiley face with their highlighter. That’s a photo of your standard smiley up on top of this blog. Nothing too fancy, took about 4 seconds to draw, and everybody’s happy. I think it’s kinda cool. My daughter loves it. She points, smiles, and is occupied with the receipt for the drive home. Fine by me. Doesn’t matter where you are, either… Costco does this in Hawaii, Mexico, Mid West, East Coast, everywhere. It has become a global policy for Costco employees… artwork for the kiddos. If you’re lucky, you might even get something festive.

Shoot, some people have loved their little Costco smiley so much… they’ve framed it.

Well, I went to Costco with my daughter and one of the dudes at the Morena Costco here in San Diego, which is usually great with their little smileys… seriously dropped the ball.

Seriously? Worst smiley face in history. Next time, bro…save it. I don’t need your rats nest depressing my daughter. Keep your damn highlighter and your bad attitude to yourself.

Like I said, love the tradition… but either put a little love into it… or don’t do it at all.

Philadelphia Wings LAX Team Thinks They’re Darren Rovell: Twitter Handles on Their Jerseys

Not gonna lie… had no clue there was such a thing as professional lacrosse. Apparently there is… this is the Philly team.

The @PhillyWings of the @NLLNetwork announced today that the team will be revolutionizing jerseys by using Wings players’ Twitter handles as their nameplate for the team’s game against the @NLLBandits at @WellsFargoCtr on Sunday, February 12 at 4 p.m.

Half my readers don’t even know what that sentence just said. @this, @that… twitter stills scares some people. I would like to point out that this is not “revolutionizing jerseys” though. Maybe it’s the first time for an entire pro sports team to do it, but the first time I saw it was CNBC’s Darren Rovell as a Tampa Bay Ray.

See? You’re not so clever, lax bros. Well, maybe you are… without your twitter handles on the back of your jerseys… I’d have no clue you existed.

“The Hobbit” Teaser Trailer is Here

I know I play a tough guy sometimes here in the blogosphere, but this is the kind of stuff I geek out for. You’ll never find me waiting in line at midnight dressed with huge hairy feet and a dirty cloak, but I do love me some Middle-Earth. Years ago, I powered through the Lord of the Rings book trilogy in a matter of weeks… then re-read the Hobbit shortly after because I didn’t remember much from the time I first read it in Jr. High. When the LOTR movies came out… loved ’em. LOVED. So, I’m pretty pumped for this here Hobbit flick. Peter Jackson does a great job… and this trailer reflects it.

Love.

Insert dork, nerd, geek, ______ comment here. Or… stop pretending to be so damn tough and embrace the beauty of J.R.R. Tolkien.

1956 Topps Sandy Koufax

While searching for an image of Sandy Koufax for this post, I noticed that his 1956 Topps card is quite popular… in many different forms.

sketched.

embossed.

embroidered.

Pretty cool…notice the embroidery ‘card’ is altered for LA instead of Brooklyn… and using a different Koufax photo. This one.

Here is a top to bottom of all the card depictions together.

Cheers to you, Sandy.

Happy Hanukkah!

It’s the first day of Hanukkah, and although I’m not Jewish, I figured I give a little “Happy Hanukkah” shoutout to our Jewish lobsters. Figured I might as well put up a photo of my favorite Jewish athlete ever. Love me some Sandy Koufax. He’s a stand up dude.

My second favorite?

He converted...”

Happy Hanukkah, guys… enjoy the time with your family.

That’s it, Rangers? $51.7 mill? Look at this man! I don’t care if it’s just to talk to him… he’s worth at least $60 mill. Hey, worked out magically for the Red Sox and Dice-K, so why not? (yeah, yeah, I know…they only have to pay if they get a deal done…still insane)
